Once a Landfill, Now a Habitat for Wildlife - A Family Day at TKO Landfill Restoration
In November, over 30 colleagues, families, and friends joined us for an exclusive nature walk at the TKO Landfill Restoration site, one of our projects showcasing ecological transformation.
Once operating as an active landfill from 1986 to 1995, this site has been undergoing restoration since 1999. Adhering to strict environmental requirements, our project team has been transforming it into a thriving landscape that benefits both local biodiversity and neighbouring communities.
With Hong Kong's grassland and shrubland habitats declining significantly from 1994 to 2022—replaced largely by secondary forest—our work actively cultivates environments that attract species thriving in these vegetation types and support their reproduction cycles.
From black goats serving as eco-friendly lawn mowers to our in-house solar-powered aquaponics system, our onsite team demonstrates commitment to environmental responsibility and innovative sustainable practices.
